WASHINGTON — A D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter was transported to the hospital following a mayday at an apartment fire.
The two-alarm fire happened Thursday morning at a nine-story apartment complex, D.C. Fire and EMS said.

D.C. Fire and EMS said the fire involved an apartment on the eighth floor. A victim was found inside the apartment and later pronounced dead.
Firefighters used their aerial tower to rescue distressed residents, many of whom were seniors, fire officials said.

A mayday was called during the fire for a firefighter in distress. The department said two patients and a firefighter were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
