MOUNT CARMEL, Pa. — All 12 residents, three staff members and five first responders have been transported to a hospital for evaluation after a three-alarm fire at a Mount Carmel Township nursing home.

A portion of the facility, Mount Carmel Senior Living Community along Locust Gap Highway near Mount Carmel’s Silver Bowl Stadium, was damaged by fire, smoke and water during the fire attack. The fire started just before 8 a.m.

According to nursing home officials, all residents will need to be relocated until the facility is repaired. Facility officials are working with other local nursing facilities and hospitals to temporarily place the residents.

Multiple fire departments responded to the 911 call.

Officials said the fire was contained within an hour.

Initial reports on 911 public communications indicated multiple people were trapped inside the facility but they were accounted for when first responders arrived.

Third Street was closed between Fifth and Willow Streets during the incident. A detour using local roads was in place. Third Street was expected to remain closed for several hours.
